Glossary Eco Foundation at the 9th UN Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection
The 9th United Nations Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection, organized by UNCTAD, is taking place in Geneva, at the Palais des Nations. This year’s theme, “Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production,” is particularly relevant to the global environmental agenda. Glossary Eco Foundation was honored to be represented at the event by its founder and scholar Anastasia Tsybuliak, who joined the discussions as a researcher, communicator, and active participant in the international dialogue on sustainable development.
The conference provided a platform for the presentation of:
40 years of experience in implementing the UN Set, the only internationally agreed document on competition policy;
theresults of 20 years of voluntary reviews of competition policies in developing countries;
analytical reports on the challenges of digital trade, product safety, and consumer protection.

Particular attention was paid to the systemic risks posed by unregulated online trade, especially in countries with informal markets. The importance of harmonizing rules, strengthening institutional capacity, and the role of international cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was emphasized.
A significant part of the discussions was devoted to examples of regional cooperation:
▪️ from the activities of the Competition Authority of Kenya in East Africa,
▪️ to the work of the Consumer Safety and Health Network under the auspices of the Organization of American States (OAS),
▪️ to the case of Argentina, which is actively reforming consumer protection policies in the digital economy.

“Our presence at such events is not only an opportunity to be heard. It is a chance to build bridges between sustainable development policies, environmental protection, and market mechanisms,” comments Anastasia Tsybulyak.
