How solar energy transforms Ukrainian schools
The war has severely damaged Ukraine’s educational infrastructure: over 5 million children have lost consistent access to schooling, one in three schools has been damaged, and hundreds have been destroyed. Power outages and unstable internet connectivity cause up to 160 hours of lost learning time every month.
The pilot project in Monastyryska, Ternopil region, has already proven its effectiveness with stable electricity supply even during blackouts, lower operational costs, reduced CO₂ emissions, and hands-on education in renewable technologies for children.
100% Solar Energy in Action
What a school gains through the project:
A 20 – 50 kW solar plant, ensuring 100% energy independence during blackouts.
UAH 250,000 – UAH 500,000 in annual savings on electricity bills, allowing more funds for educational needs.
35 – 52 tons of CO₂ emissions reduced annually, equal to planting over 2,000 trees — a real step toward a school’s greener future.
The ability to sell surplus energy under Ukraine’s “green tariff”, generating up to UAH 200,000 in additional yearly income.v
An educational program on renewable energy, giving children practical skills and nurturing ecological awareness from an early age.
Step by step toward energy resilience
There are over 12,900 schools in Ukraine — each can become energy resilient and financially sustainable.
50 schools equipped with solar power plants mean over UAH 25 million in annual savings, 2,600 tons less CO₂, and continuous learning in 50 communities even during national crises.
500 schools represent UAH 250 million saved each year, over 26,000 tons of CO₂ avoided, and continuous learning for 250,000+ children even during energy disruptions.
In summer, the energy that powers classrooms turns into support for learning itself: schools can sell surplus electricity and reinvest it into new programs, repairs, and infrastructure upgrades. It’s a renewable model of power resilience and financial autonomy that can transform schools across the country.
Seasonal Dynamics of Surplus Energy
Infrastructure + Education
We align infrastructure with mindset — building both the physical and cultural foundations of sustainability from childhood.

Long-Term Legacy
An investment that works for decades — creating resilient communities and changing children’s lives for the better.
When a school keeps its lights on during a blackout, it’s more than electricity in a classroom. It’s children keeping their rhythm of learning. It’s parents who feel secure about tomorrow. It’s a community that experiences the power of resilience. Sunlight Schools program is an investment in a generation for whom energy resilience and sustainability are simply the norm.
