Earth Hour
How an hour without light helps the environment. On Saturday, March 22, WWF invites everyone to join the global initiative “Earth Hour” and turn off unnecessary lamps and electrical appliances from 20:30 to 21:30 Kyiv time to support the planet and demonstrate your commitment to energy conservation.
What is Earth Hour?
“Earth Hour” is an annual event launched in 2007 by WWF in Sydney (Australia). During this time, the action has become global, and today it unites millions of people in over 190 countries around the world. At this symbolic moment, dozens of major monuments and public places plunge into darkness, reminding us of the importance of saving energy and fighting climate change.
Why is it important?
Turning off the lights even for one hour makes a big difference. It is an opportunity to make a collective gesture to support the planet, reduce energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions. We can all join in saving energy and supporting the fight against climate change, even through small steps. Your action can become part of a large movement to change attitudes towards the planet.
How to participate in Ukraine?
To join Earth Hour, simply turn off unnecessary electrical appliances and lighting in your homes or workplaces during the specified time. This is a simple but effective way to show your support for global efforts to save the planet. Which countries join Earth Hour? More than 190 countries join this action every year. Cities and towns around the world take part, including large metropolises and small settlements.
What an hour of light-off does for the environment.
According to WWF, in 2023, Earth Hour will have reduced electricity consumption by more than 17 gigawatt-hours worldwide. This has helped reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 10 million tons. For example, this is equivalent to taking 2 million cars off the road for an hour! Every light turned off, every household appliance that is not working, is an important step towards reducing the negative impact on the environment. These figures highlight how important collective action is, even if it is just an hour of turning off the lights. Your participation in Earth Hour really makes a difference in the fight against climate change! Join Earth Hour! Every gesture you make is important for the future of our planet.
