Farms for children
The first eco-initiative of the Glossary Foundation was the Farms for City Children project, which aimed to introduce urban children to farm life. This project provided children with practical experiences such as grazing cows, feeding poultry, cleaning up after horses, and gaining insights into growing animal feed, vegetables, and herbs.
The initiative seeks to foster in children a connection with nature and promote values such as environmental respect, an understanding of the importance of work, and awareness of their role in the world around them.
The project kicked off by welcoming children from the My Family family-type orphanage to the partner’s Karashynske Podviria organic farm. During the visit, the children engaged in various activities – observing the process of growing vegetables, harvesting produce from greenhouse beds, learning about organic poultry farming, and discerning the difference between organic and conventional eggs. Also, the children had the opportunity to feed the livestock, assist in grilling burgers, and brew organic herb tea.
This initiative provided the young participants with a firsthand encounter with rural living, offering interactive activities and educational lectures. They learned about conscious consumption, caring for nature and its inhabitants, efficient plastic use and recycling, and sustainable living.
Join our initiative! Your contribution will help implement this and other important projects that bring Ukraine closer to sustainable development and quality education for every child.
